The Entrepreneurship Lab presents Pace Mobile App Design Contest! Entrepreneurship Lab (eLab) invites all Pace students to participate and win cash prizes.

Challenge

Create a concept for a mobile app that demonstrates innovative design in helping meet user needs. Submit a full app design using any tool (Adobe Photoshop or Microsoft Publisher) or language (HTML, CSS and Javascript). We will also accept screenshots from mobile emulators.

Note: This is only a design contest and NOT a development contest.

Programming is NOT required.

Important Dates

Registration Ends: Monday October 21st 2013 at 5:00 PM

Last Day of Submission: Monday November 4th 2013 at 5:00 PM deadline extended to November 11th 2013

Finalist Announcement: Monday November 11th 2013

Final Event - Design Showcase & Student Vote: 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM Thursday December 5th 2013

Votes cast by the audience at the event will  be used to select the three winners and the judge will determine the rank order: 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

 

 

How To Enter

Eligibility: You must be a full or part-time student currently enrolled in Pace University or recent graduate (graduated within the past 18 months)

Register online: Each member of the team must complete the Registration Form

Submit: Submit all required documents by 5:00 PM Monday November 4th 2013 by emailing Nikhil Kalyankar, Associate Director of Entrepreneurship Lab, at nkalyankar@pace.edu.

Finals: If selected as a Finalist, specific instructions for the final event will be sent to you.

 

 

What To Submit

Short description (300-400 words) of the application. Please include:

  • What makes the design particularly interesting or usable
  • Outstanding features or design elements

A list of all App pages images (or screenshots) and a brief description of each image instructions:

  • Please do NOT put callouts or captions on the image.
  • Save each image in PNG format as a separate file (NOT in a document or presentation)
  • Capture full-page images, showing as much as would be visible in a normal screen
  • Each image filename should include the name of the application and a description of the image (such as elab_dashboard.png )

 

 

Design Tools & Languages

You may use any design tool or language

  • Suggested Tools: Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Publisher, Xcode Interface Builder
  • Suggested Languages: HTML with CSS, Javascript, JQuery

 

Judging Criteria

  • Aesthetic appeal
  • Innovative features
  • Complexity of the problem space
  • Ease of use

 

 

Prize Money

First Prize $500

Second Prize $250

Third Prize $100

Pace University reserves the right to disqualify, at its sole discretion, any individual or team from the competition at any time (before or after the Contest or the award of any prize) for any reason. Reasons for disqualification may include, but are not limited to, misrepresentations in the application process, plagiarism, infringement of the intellectual property of others, and any failure to comply with the rules of the competition. Disqualified individuals or teams shall forfeit any and all prizes awarded to them.

FAQ

Do I need to know, how to program or code?

Programming knowledge is not required as the contest is only about designing the product.

What tools or languages can or should I use?

You may use any tool or language. For more information on tools go to the Resources page.

Does my app have to be on the App Store?

No. This is only app designing contest, there is no need to have a working app in an App Store.

Can we join as a team?

Yes you can participate as a team.

How many students can there be in a team?

Up to 3 students can participate as a team.

Can non-Pace students participate?

Non-Pace students cannot participate individually. If participating as a team at least one of the team member should be a Pace student. Non-Pace students should email Elizabeth Jovanoska at ejovanoska@pace.edu to the following details:
